Jazz Maui featuring Joie Yasha: Jobim and the Bossa Nova

A tribute to one of the primary forces behind the creation of the "bossa nova" style of music!

Dr. Joie Yasha has been a saxophonist for over 25 years and has been a member and leader of several bands in Montgomery, Atlanta, Ithaca and Maui. Her music training began on piano at the age of 7 and then moved to saxophone at 13. She excelled on saxophone and was first chair in Alabama All-State band, which lead to her being the youngest member of the Montgomery Jazz orchestra lead by Tommy Stewart.

She minored in music at Clark Atlanta University and was a party of jazz ensembles at Cornell University. As a member of the world-famous Clark Atlanta University Jazz Orchestra begun by Dizzy Gillespie, she has toured Europe in the Montreux, Paris, and North Sea Jazz festivals. She currently resides on Maui appearing as a solo artist and playing in various groups around the islands.

Mike Lewis has spent substantial time performing in Polynesia and the tri-state New York area, Mike Lewis has recently moved back to Hawaii after touring and recording with Buddy Rich, Sarah Vaughn, Sammy Davis, Wynton Marsalis, Sonny and Cher, Billy Joel, Natalie Cole, Rosemary Clooney, The Temptations, Tony Bennett, Gladys Knight, and Bruno Mars.
