Jason Gay's "Hidden Dragon" Quartet
Saturday August 19
Jason Gay's "Hidden Dragon" Quartet is shedding new light on various Chinese Folk songs, operatic adaptions, as well as show tunes while employing various unconventional and timbral saxophonic techniques. Revamping standards such as "Butterfly Lovers","Journey to Suzhou" and "Horserace" to name a few.

This all-star band includes:
Jason Gay, soprano & alto saxophones
Grant Carvalho, piano
Ian Sheridan, bass
Noel Okimoto, drums & percussion

Jason Gay began performing at age 16 touring up and down the East Coast with the drama and musical group "Uprising." He then attended Berklee School of Music in Boston and finished at Virginia Commonwealth where he obtained his B.A. in music. Jason performed with Ravi Coltrane, Jeremy Pelt, Sam Kininger, Reuben Rogers, Steve Lacy, NOBS brassband and the Temptations, among others.
In 2000 he joined the Navy and played in the Navy Band till last January before retiring to become a permanent resident of Hawaii.

About three years ago, Jason began studying Chinese folk and classical music. He feels blessed to have discovered such beauty and feels musically renewed through the study of Chinese music. He has drawn from various aspects of Chinese classical music and integrated them with elements from the American Jazz tradition to create something original and refreshing.

This will be a phenomenal and mind-blowing evening with some of Honolulu's best musicians. Don't miss this one!
